To improve the district and make streets safer and nicer for the community, the following infrastructure upgrades are in the works:
SHERMAN WAY GREAT STREET
Provide streetscape and safety improvements in Downtown Reseda along Sherman Way between Wilbur and Lindley, including: “Reseda” monument signs, street trees and median landscaping, a new pedestrian crossing, shade shelters and seating; and “zebra” crosswalks.Traffic-calming measures installed on Hart and Etiwanda, including speed humps, a traffic circle, and pavement markings, to make these streets more comfortable for people to bike to Downtown Reseda.
Status: Completed
RESEDA BLVD STREET IMPROVEMENTS
- Reconstruct and resurface Reseda Boulevard between Victory Blvd and Parthenia St.; repair defective sidewalks; add left-turn signals at key intersections; construct bus boarding islands to enhance transit service between the Orange Line and CSUN; create protected bike lanes and close the bike lane gap between Vanowen and Valerio; upgrade crosswalks; capture more stormwater; plant street trees; and more.
Status: Completed Spring 2024. Cost was $24M
ALISO CREEK CONFLUENCE PARK PHASE 2
Construct pedestrian bridge across Aliso Creek; build landscaped walking path on north bank of LA River from Wilbur to Reseda, including stormwater recapture.
Status: Blumenfield provided $4.65M in funding. The City entered into a partnership with Trust for Public Land to design and construct the park. As of Spring 2024, design is nearly complete, when the project will be submitted to LA County and US Army Corps of Engineers for final permitting.
REIMAGINE VENTURA
This is the Councilmember’s project to make the western edge of Ventura Boulevard feel more like a "Main Street." By focusing on street improvements, Ventura Boulevard will become a more attractive destination for customers, businesses and residents.
Status: Phase 1 is complete — roadway restriping, reverse angle parking on both sides of Ventura Boulevard between Fallbrook Avenue and Royer Avenue, an enhanced signalized pedestrian crosswalk at Ponce Avenue and Ventura Boulevard, and a new traffic signal at Royer Avenue and Ventura Boulevard.
Phase 2 – landscaping, street furniture, and other safety improvements to build on Phase 1 – is in design by StreetsLA.
BIKE LANES AND CONNECTIONS
When StreetsLA plans to resurface streets, Councilmember Blumenfield requests the Department of Transportation to evaluate opportunities to expand bicycle infrastructure. This coordination is now required under Measure HLA, approved by Los Angeles voters in March 2024. This effort focuses on “gap closures”--ensuring that bike lanes and paths connect to each other–and places where overly-wide roads encourage street racing and speeding. These projects include:
- Variel Avenue (Victory to Oxnard): Parking-protected bike lanes have been installed on Variel between Victory and Erwin, and will be installed between Erwin and Oxnard when that street is resurfaced. These new lanes will connect the Orange Line Path to the heart of the Warner Center
- Sherman Way (at Topanga Canyon): extend existing bike lanes through the intersection
- Ventura Boulevard (west of Topanga Canyon): Bike lanes have been extended from Shoup to Sale, and will be extended from Ponce to Valley Circle when resurfaced. Working with Caltrans to explore whether bike lanes can be extended from Shoup to Topanga Canyon.
